Job description

We are seeking a Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join an amazing Special Needs school in Twickenham. As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant the school needs you to provide additional support to their leaners and their fantastic team of staff. You must have previous experience working with children and ideally you will have experience as a Teaching Assistant.

The School:

  • A Special Needs School for children and young people aged 4 -19 with severe and complex learning difficulties including those with an additional diagnosis of autism and/or physical/sensory disabilities.
  • Committed to supporting all pupils to fulfil their potential
  • Highly qualified and dedicated staff with high expectations of pupils and themselves
  • Recognise that the success of their school is largely dependent on the quality of their staff and are committed to recruiting and retaining outstanding individuals
  • Small class sizes between 8 to 10 pupils

The Role:

  • Monday-Friday 8:30am- 4pm term time only
  • Provide support to both the children and staff
  • Develop learner progress in social situations through promotion of play, both structured and unstructured
  • Provide a welcoming and nurturing environment for pupils who have severe and complex learning needs
  • Understand the vulnerabilities of the pupils at the school

Requirements:

  • Recent experience of working with special needs pupils, inside or outside a school environment
  • Be committed to working alongside the teacher
  • Must be proficient in English
  • Hold or be willing to apply for an enhanced DBS
  • Be able to work full time 5 days a week Monday to Friday
  • Either live in Twickenham, or within a commutable distance
