National Inclusion Week 2026: What It Means for School Leaders and Education Staff
14 to 20 September 2026 | Theme: Build Trust. Navigate Change.
Every September, workplaces across the UK pause to focus on something that matters every single day: inclusion. National Inclusion Week (NIW) returns this year from 14th to 20th September, and in education, it's a timely moment for everyone, from school leaders to teachers and teaching assistants, to reflect on what belonging really looks like in schools.
This year's theme, "Build Trust. Navigate Change," reflects the reality of the sector right now. Budgets are tighter, expectations are shifting, and the pressures on schools are real, but inclusion can't take a back seat. It shows up in who gets hired, who gets promoted, who feels comfortable speaking up in a staff meeting, and who feels they truly belong.
For School Leaders
Building an inclusive school is an ongoing effort that touches everything from recruitment to everyday culture. National Inclusion Week is a reminder that the small, consistent choices schools make, in hiring, in staff support, and in how voices are heard, all add up to whether people genuinely feel they belong.
For Teachers and Teaching Assistants
For teachers and teaching assistants, inclusion is felt in the everyday experience of a school: whether the staffroom feels welcoming, whether wellbeing support is real rather than just a policy, and whether people from all backgrounds feel able to speak up and be heard. National Inclusion Week is a chance to recognise how much these things matter to job satisfaction and a sense of belonging at work.
